ACT® WorkKeys®

About the Test
The Wallace State Professional Testing Center adminsisters ACT WorkKeys assessments. The same WorkKeys assessments are used for the Basic Abilities Test (BAT) required by APOSTC and for earning the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). We also offer the WorkKeys Paraprofessional assessment and individual WorkKeys tests.

Study materials are hyperlinked throughout each WorkKeys assessment section below for your convenience. You can also use the ACT WorkKeys resource below to prepare for your test.

Available Assessments

WorkKeys BAT / NCRC – $50: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents.
WorkKeys Paraprofessional – $80: Applied Math, Workplace Documents, and Business Writing
Individual WorkKeys Assessments – $25 each: Applied Math, Applied Technology, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents.
*Business Writing and Workplace Observation is $30 when taken individually.

The APOSTC/BAT/NCRC requirement consists of three specific ACT WorkKeys assessments.
- Applied Math: Measures mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills needed in the workplace (55 minutes, 34 questions).
- Workplace Documents: Measures the ability to read and comprehend written workplace texts like memos, policies, and bulletins (55 minutes, 35 questions).
- Graphic Literacy: Measures the ability to locate, synthesize, and use information from charts, graphs, and diagrams (55 minutes, 38 questions).

The ACT WorkKeys Paraprofessional assessment set consists of three specific ACT WorkKeys assessments:

Applied Math: Measures mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills needed in the workplace (55 minutes, 34 questions).

Workplace Documents: Measures the ability to read and comprehend written workplace texts such as memos, policies, and bulletins (55 minutes, 35 questions).

Business Writing: Measures the ability to write clear, organized, and effective workplace communications. Candidates respond to one writing prompt and have 30 minutes to complete their response.

You will register here for your first attempt at the WorkKeys Business Writing assessment.

The Testing Center is located on the 4th floor of the James C. Bailey Center. When you exit the elevator, please turn right and follow the hallway. The Testing Center will be located all the way down at the end of the hallway.

Workplace writing needs to be clear and free of distractions such as poor grammar, misspellings, and extraneous information. After all, careless errors may lead the reader to believe there are also errors in the facts, and the writer loses credibility and trustworthiness.

The Business Writing assessment measures the skill used when writing an original response to a work-related situation. Components of the Business Writing skill include sentence structure, mechanics, grammar, word usage, tone and word choice, organization and focus, and development of ideas.
